Rippers Resurrected!

The Vanishing Professor

The evening started off quiet. Enjoying a nice dinner with Arthur Harmsworth at the University of London. The talk was polite and civil, short of John McRee deciding it best to talk about his love for "Virginia" his trusty sidearm, while placing her lovingly on the table! Suddenly there was a crash in the back room, and Arthur jumps up to investigate worried that something was damaged in the Egyptian Galleries. The Rippers jump up to help noticing an eerie darkness that even Sawyer can't seem to see through with his RipperTech. The professor screams out as he is grabbed and Sawyer rushes forward to to help..Bushwhacked Sawyer is beaten by a group of thugs with saps and he drops to a knee. John draws Virginia and proceeds to fan the hammer dropping two of the thugs turning Sawyer into a human pinata! Meanwhile Dr. Heinrich Jagermeister heads back to the table to grab a candelabra, but unfortunately knocks it over setting the table on fire, amplified by the copious amounts of whisky on the table! This distraction gives two more thugs time to take Arthur out the back door….

Heinrich douses the flames, grabs the candelabra and heads back to the room to join his friends. John takes out the remaining thug on Sawyer and the group race to the back door to find the professor gone! The weird darkness that flooded the room dissipates and the group search for some clues… All of the thugs are carrying opium bearing the symbol of a "yellow lotus". James being a bit of a gambler had actually played some cards there in the past and is aware the Yellow Lotus is a gambling den in the Chinatown district of London.

Heinrich does his best to fix up Sawyer but he is still pretty beat up. So to bypass the pain, Sawyer decides to take the opium to shrug off the pain! From there the group heads to the Yellow Lotus and John helps get the group in. They do some gambling while checking out the scene and see that groups of people are heading down a dark hallway to a back room. The group make there way to the hallway and talk there way to the opium den! They get themselves a private booth and scope the scene. There are a bunch of large guards and some servants running opium to the booths. The group is confident that Arthur is here, so they try to search the booths. The guards intervene and combat goes wild while the thugs take Arthur out the back door…again! John and Sawyer do well taking out the guards, while Heinrich rushes to the back of the den and draws his cane sword and attempts to intimidate the guard into letting them pass. He succeeds and is just about the call his friends over…when the years of Heinrich testing potions he created from the juices of monsters on himself took their toll! His eyes turn green and his face becomes manic! He proceeds to slice the guard to shreds snicker snack. The combat is over quickly as the group make their way out the back door and find a carriage racing away! The group interrogate the Opium den madam and she tells the group they were heading to The Docks!

The group makes there way to the docks to find the carriage over on it's side with a creature made of pure shadow crouched on top of it. Bodies of the thugs lie strewn across the docks in various pieces! The group attempts to combat the creature and quickly find out the weapons of mortal man, that of lead and steel pose no threat to a creature of shadow! However ingenuity prevails as the group realizes that LIGHT is the answer, and find a box full of fireworks! Lighting up the shadow creature like the 4th of July!

After the beast was defeated the Rippers find Arthur in the luggage chest drugged and unaware why he was taken!

The Headless Horseman

While still at The Docks with Arthur Harmsworth in tow, the group decide to figure out why someone would want to capture the professor. Being at the docks, one can only assume that they were planning on taking the professor out of the country! Since the group did manage to slay a shadow creature, the dock manager had no issue showing the group the shipping manifests for the evening. This pointed to a ship leaving in 30 minutes to Cairo. The group decides it would be best examine the ship for themselves.

As they approach the ship, they find that the docking ramp is being pulled away for departure by a couple of deck hands. John McRee persuades them to reconnect the docking ramp and walk away for 1/2 a quid each. With that the group marches up to the deck of the ship to be confronted by the Captain. He asks what the group is doing there. They explain that they were instructed to bring the professor on board as he was supposed to depart with the ship. The Captain explains that this is a cargo ship and does not handle passengers, then motions the group onto the bridge. With some successful banter, the group finds out that the owner of the ship fudges the logs with illegible entries from time to time, and these shipments always go the Cairo. Each fudge is a crate usually 6 ft x 4ft x 4ft. Sawyer getting bored with all this talk of ledgers and investigation ( and feeling a little woozy due to coming down off the opium high he had been on) steps out on to the deck. Looking out at the wreckage of the carriage he notices a shattered crate that would have had the dimensions the captain spoke of! After making this discovery, the severity of his wounds and the opium crash take there toll and Sawyer sags against the railing. With a man down the group take the professor home, and decide to crash at the lodge for the night so they can keep an eye on Sawyer.

The next morning Mina Harker stops by and asks the team to head to Ireland to help a former Ripper Colleen Moran with a monster sighting. They are scheduled to leave in 2 hours. With that the group gear up, and Dr. Heinrich Jagermeister stops by the Library to speak with Wilfred about monsters of Irish lore, as well as if he could find out more about the ship's owner from the night before. Wilfred agrees to track down the information and provides Heinrich with a few books on Irish lore to review for insight.

The group then travels to Ireland by ship, taking the time to rest and recover from the previous nights escapades. Upon arrival at the dock town, it is too late to travel to Colleen's Estate so the group heads to the local pub to gather some information, and a drink or two… They hear tales of a pale horse and the rider death roaming the local roads, some claim it is a banshee coming to claim those about to die, others claim they saw a demonic coach with glowing horses. All seem generally frightened by the whole ordeal, and no one wishes to travel at night alone. With that the local postman is more than happy to take the Rippers to Colleen's Estate in the morning. Figuring it would be better to travel in numbers while the sun is still set. After that the group retires for the night at the local inn. Only Heinrich stays up a little longer to research the books he got from Wilfred.

The next morning brings much needed rest to the rippers. Sawyer being the young buck he is, recovers completely and feels like a new man after Heinrich brings him a strong cup of Irish Coffee. They meet with the postman and he takes them to Colleen's estate. The group meet Randal, Caitlynn, and Claire, Colleen's nieces and nephew. Randal seems nervous but relieved when answering the door, the group attributes it to the creature lurking the roads. Sawyer tries to cozy up to Claire, but the girl obviously wants nothing to do with the American. The group is introduced to Colleen, who is very old and sick. Heinrich looks over her wounds and medicine and finds that the medicine has a strange smell to it. Trying to be sly ( but failing miserably ) Heinrich swipes and arm and sends the medicine crashing to the floor shattering the bottle. During this time Colleen is explaining that the creature is most likely a Banshee, and that they come to escort the dying to the afterlife. John opens his big mouth and says "well I reckon it's here for you then, being sick an all". With that Colleen reprimands him for his tactlessness and throws him out of her home, saying he is no longer welcome. John is learning that proper etiquette is important when dealing with the Euro's it seems. Randal and the girls come in after hearing the crash and Randal is noticeably upset, and frustrated states he must go to town to get more medicine. The rippers offer to get the medicine for him, and he shuts them down saying no he must do it. Colleen asks him to escort John out of the house. The girls get some cleaning supplies and clean up the mess, but not before Heinrich gets a sample for testing.

Outside Randal continues to belittle John for being a pathetic american and storms off to the Livery to get a horse. John lets him go, but then grabs his own horse, saddles up and rides after him. The chase is on! John rides up next to Randal and takes a swing at him with his trusty sap but misses. Randal rides away like a coward and veers his horse off the road and through the trees. John quickly follows suit and rides off the trail…..and close-lines himself on a very large tree branch! The impact was hard throwing the man from his horse, breaking a few ribs, his nose, and covering him in a layer of bumps and bruises!

Meanwhile back at the Estate! Heinrich does some tests and explains to Colleen that she is being poisoned, and while he can't completely point the finger at Randal, he seems the most likely culprit. At the same time while the girls are preparing lunch, Sawyer sneaks up and listens through the door. The girls are talking about the men that keep stopping by for Randal, and that they scare the girls. Sawyer then comes in offering to help. Being snubbed by Claire, Sawyer turns his attention to Caitlynn, where he gets a better response. After chit chatting a bit, he finds out that Randal has quite a bit of debt and some men have been coming by every day after lunch during Colleen's nap. These men scare the girls. Sawyer vows to protect them, and they have nothing to worry about!

After lunch Heinrich tests the rest of the medicine and finds that all of it is tainted. However what he didn't see was Sawyer palm the opium on the table. It seems that first taste wasn't quite enough for the young ripper! Now the question is…..is the opium poisoned like the rest of the medicine?

About this time John gets himself picked back up, and starts limping back to the Estate….

….There is a knock at the door, and the girls are immediately upset. Sawyer calms them down and pulls the hammers back on his pistols, leaving one holstered and slipping the other in his pocket trying to conceal them to the men as he opens the door. Sawyer opens the door to 5 gruff looking men in bowler hats, but unfortunately sawyer catches his coat on the door handle, exposing his guns to the men! The thugs quickly draw their weapons and fire at Sawyer, while not quite hitting him they force him to take cover behind the door as splinters fly! The men quickly retreat back around the corner of the building for some measure of cover. The girls run off and lock themselves in the kitchen, while Heinrich draws his derringer and fires a shot at one of the retreating men clipping him as he falls back. Sawyer pulls his smokewagons and rushes into the courtyard with thugs on either side of him, drawing his guns on either side of him, he fires taking one thug out while forcing the other against the wall of the building but missing. The thugs in response try and gun down Sawyer but the young man is quick on his feet, and only ends up taking a shot in his right arm. But hey Rippers are made of sterner stuff! Rolling with the shot Sawyer brings his guns to bear on the two men on his right, but the shot to his arm causes him to lose his grip on one of his pistols and it sails through the window of the estate! His other pistol rings while not killing the man manages to put a bullet in his leg! Heinrich already working on a sneaky plan by coming through the window at the men find a gift from heaven as Sawyers pistol crashes through the window at his feet! Heinrich picks up the revolver and sends rounds hailing out of the window dropping the two thugs in his line of fire!

At this point a broken John comes stumbling back to the Estate to find his friends bushwhacked! He quickly draws Virginia and adds to the fight! Being outnumbered the remaining Thugs make a break for it. However this only seems to do 1 thing….send Heinrich into a blind rage! Throwing the pistol down, the enraged Dr leaps out the window charges after the thugs and manages to catch the slowest one at the end of the drive. Maddened the Dr tackles the thug and proceeds to smash his head into the cobblestone! Moments later nothing but a gooey mess remains where his head used to be! The final thug manages to avoid shots from John, but down the road he stops dead in his tracks ( hehe see what I did there!) Standing before him on a giant glowing steed, was the Headless Horseman! Carrying a skull with glowing red eyes in his left hand, and a large whip made of bone, the Horseman's whip lashes out around the thugs neck, and flings him into the nearest tree snapping the thugs neck in the process. The horseman then raises his left hand as the skull surveys the seen, and in a bellowing voice shouts…"John McRee your time has come! I pronounce Doom Upon Thee!"

(And that is where we stopped for the Night!)

Death, Deception, and a fist full of Gold!

…The horseman then raises his left hand as the skull surveys the seen, and in a bellowing voice shouts…"John McRee your time has come! I pronounce Doom Upon Thee!"…

And with that the Horseman strode forward to the edge of the fog bank and waited. Meanwhile John McRee started limping his way back to Sawyer, while Dr. Heinrich Jagermeister in a blind rage rushed toward the Horseman of Death! Leaping in the air Heinrich tackled Death throwing him from his horse, and slamming him to the ground, sending his severed skull from his hands. They ethereal horse then faded away while the Dr and Death wrestled for an advantage. The Dr was the clear winner shoving his hand deep into Deaths chest and removing his heart! The heart turned to dust while the Skull laughed "Do you think a mere mortal can claim Death!". And the struggle continued. Sawyer managed to get John back to the house, where Colleen Moran had given her nieces a vial to have John drink. He did and while it tasted something awful, it did manage to bind up some of his open wounds, while opening up his tummy for a rough day! Sawyer now joined up with the mad Dr and takes a few shots at Death. They all strike true, but don't seem to do more that irritate the creature! Death eventually breaks free of the Dr's hold, summons his mystical steed and rides off as the eerie fog starts to dissipate. As he leaves he swears his revenge on Heinrich.

After the group takes a moment to gather their wits, and patch up Sawyer, they remember that Father O'Malley had faced Death 15 years ago. With that they head back to town to talk with the good Father. Meeting him in the Confession both, Sawyer explains the situation and that it is urgent they talk in private. The Rippers are then summoned back to O'Malley's office and they discuss the events as they unfolded. O'Malley explains to the Rippers that it was the Father all mighty that struck down the beast that night. Through the power of Jesus infused in the cross, was O'Malley able to smite the creature. Which is why he never replaced the cross and it is currently at the front of the church on display for all to see. The group go investigate the cross and notice a few things out of place. The cross was made of gold but was untouched, however the wooden Jesus affixed to the cross was severely damaged, as well as some missing jewels and bent silver prongs that held the jewels in place. Using his expertise in chemistry, Heinrich concludes that there was no reasonable way for the gold not to be damaged when everything else was.

With this new found information the group decides to head back to Colleen's home and find any gold they can muster to turn into weapons to deal with the creator. Sawyer also being a man of faith, isn't quite sure that it wasn't the cross itself that protected the Father, and insists on taking the cross with them. The Father says that the cross must stay, to protect the people of the church, however Heinrich makes a successful argument that the creature has no need to come to such a place, when others are already a target of the creature.

With that the group rides back to Colleen's home to find Randal returning with more medicine for his sweet aunt. Sawyer pistol whips the scum and ties him up in the stable, leaving him to smell the dead bodies of the thugs. At this point the group makes a rush to prepare things before nightfall. Sawyer finds any symbols of faith he can and hides them in convenient locations he can access and then hides in the front yard waiting for the creature to make it's move.

John runs around the house collecting gold items to melt down for use in plating bullets, while Heinrich works on creating said bullets….and of course a medieval gauntlet plated in gold. Being the selfish man he is Heinrich creates a few bullets, but then moves on to creating himself a golden gauntlet of death! Once the glove is complete, he is so happy with his work that he must test it, sliding the glove onto his hand! The Pain was almost unbearable, charring his skin and locking his hand in a fist position!

Meanwhile…..the sun has gone down, and DEATH has arrived! The creature rushes down the driveway, the crossbeam on the door flys off, and the doors explode open! John frantically loads his gun with the few golden bullets Heinrich managed to make before losing it over his glove. Death rides up to John and attempts to crack his bone whip upon the man, but John managed to move out of the way and avoid the bone crushing snap of the whip! Heinrich in a rage rushes across the room leaps into the air and slams his golden glove into Death's skull! There is a large crash and a small crack forms on the skull! Enraged the horseman draws back his whip and attempts to end the Dr's life, but the golden glove comes to the rescue again and parries the blow, shattering the bone whip of the horseman! John uses this distraction to draw his gun and put a bullet in the Horseman's head! The shot rang true and shattered the skull! with that the Horseman's body screamed and exploded into mist throwing the Dr and John to the ground. The impact threw some sense into Heinrich and he managed to snap out of his rage.

With the Horseman dealt with the group talked to Colleen to see how she wanted to handle her Nephew who was still attempting to poison the girl. She said it was time for him to find out what kind of people the rippers really are! With that the group setup a makeshift operating room in the stables and Heinrich performed a few surgeries on the dead. Then said "bring the next one" and Sawyer and John grabbed Randal and brought him into the room and tied him to the table. Scaring the man to the point of wetting himself, the group made sure he understood the ramifications of crossing them, and he agreed to never return or bother his Aunt again. Doing all of this earned the group great favor with not only Colleen but the Rippers as well! So after spending the evening with Colleen the group made their way back to London.

Upon arriving Sawyer has a letter addressed from Burundi: "Mr. Sawyer, I am Zharvakko son of Azhanhavo, good friend of Alan Quartermaine. My father said to call on you should I ever have trouble. Please hurry"

Sawyer rallies the team and they book a trip to Africa! Meanwhile the good Dr gathers some books for the trip explaining to Wilfred their trip to Burundi. With that Wilfred says "You might be interested in this". It is a copy of the London Times; looking through the paper there is an artical the speaks of a giant killer crocodile that lives in Lake Tanganyika.

Killer Crocs, Belgians, and Blimps, Oh My!

The group make their way down to Africa via Steam boat. Upon arrival Sawyer reaches out to his old war buddy Reginald Dobottom. Dobottom, although a drunk after his wife died, picked up the pieces of his life, and became a test pilot for this new fangled contraption called a Dirigible. He offers to give the team a ride to cover the 600 plus miles of jungle, in a couple days instead of a couple of weeks!

The travel goes well, until Dobottom passes out from drinking, Heinrich is puking over the side, and a storm starts tossing the blimp around. Sawyer takes the rudder, while McCree shoves in coal…..but instead tosses in the Shovel! Quickly recovering McCree uses his hands to toss in the coal, and Sawyer manages to pilot the Blimp successfully until the storm passes.

The group rappels down the ship to the village to find out about the Croc, and Dobottom says he will be back in a week to pick the group up.

The team find the Belgians coming to take revenge against the local tribes stating that they don't believe in the croc and that the locals murdered their soldiers. With some excellent smoothtalking, Heinrich not only calms the Belgians down, he manages to recruit a small group of them to come with the rippers as they investigate the Killer Crocs!

The team head out to the lake, and decide to create some bait with goats covered in a berry juice tranqulizer! As the group setup their plan, Sawyer dives into the water using his gills to head down to the lake to find the killer croc. While no giant croc was found, he did manage to stir up the hornets nest! Having a group of regular ol' crocs come after him! The race was on and Sawyer barely managed to get out of the lake with only a couple bites. Weaponless Sawyer uses his wits and skill and jumps on the back of one of the crocs and starts to wrestle the beast! McCree gets a chunk of his leg bit off as he goes down but manages to empty his pistol in it's head finishing it off! Heinrich manages to have his troops kill another croc with rifles, and then it happens!

Errupting from the water, the GIANT killer croc comes out and attacks! Sawyer freshly killing the smaller crock, tries the same trick leaping on the back of the giant croc and attempting to ride it home! He isn't so lucky this time getting thrown off and landing near the goats. In a last ditch effort Sawyer tries to shove one of the goats in the beasts mouth! While successful, he didnt manage to get his arm out in time, and with a loud SNAP, Sawyer loses his right arm!!!! Bleeding out and in pain, Sawyer makes a call. He lights the TNT he has and jumps into the beasts mouth!!!!!

BOOM! the explosion rips the insides of the croc to shreads killing it instantly! The good Dr goes berserk and clocks one of the soldiers until they restrain him to calm down. John, and the rest of the soldiers manage to take out the rest of the crocs…

Sawyer's remains in the croc trigger the madness of the Dr! He quickly demands the Shaman to start a rain dance, demanding lightning! ANd with that he takes a page from former ripper Dr Frankenstien and begins putting Sawyer back together again! Using the Arm from a fallin Tribesman and the hide from the giant killer Croc, the good Dr manages to shove the life back into Sawyer….while still alive, the young man has changed…..for the better? We don't know yet!

The Bankes Afair

Recruiting the Shaman after helping bring back Sawyer, the group are sent to the estate of Sir William Bankes. Besides being a noble, Bankes is an amateur Archaeologist, and has a retreat at his home for some guests. The Rippers arrive and intend to spend the weekend convincing him to join their cause!

Soon after arriving they talk with Bankes who is interested but needs the weekend to think about it.

Things turn bad however when a guest is found murdered! The group quickly begin to investigate, Sawyer starts questioning witnesses, while Heinrich searches for clues! McCree and Jeaque  follow after Enrico who left furious right before the murder.

Long story short, the group find that Enrico while a dick, is not the murderer, but it is in fact Jonathan Jellicoe!  The group wrap up the investigation and have Jellicoe takin to jail.  But that night the estate is attacked!  It looks like some evil cultists are after Bankes!  The group foils the kidnapping plot but then hears a huge explosion!  They head to the balcony to see the Obelisk that was in the hedge maze destroyed!
